ERAWAN SHRINE

Built in 1956, the Erawan Shrine (a.k.a. San Thao Maha Phrom Shrine which means Shrine of Lord Brahma the Great) is a very popular worship attraction in Bangkok, Thailand for both residents and tourists. The statue of Phra Phrom inside the shrine  represents Lord Brahma – the Hindu god of creation. Throughout each day, traditional Thai performances by dance troupes take place at the shrine. The dancers are hired by worshippers in return for seeing their prayers at the shrine answered.

Located at the Ratchaprasong intersection of Ratchadamri Road near Chitlom BTS Skytrain station, the Erawan Shrine can also be viewed by overlooking from the elevated walkway. As the area is the city centre, many shopping malls can be accessed from there including Amarin Plaza, Central World, and Gaysorn.
