As well as an ideal place for animal lovers and young children, Dusit Zoo is the oldest and the most popular zoo in Thailand! Approximately 50 acres and 2.5 million visitors per year, it is located in the heart of inner Bangkok and it was once the private royal garden in Dusit Palace of King Chulalongkorn or King Rama V. It was previously called “Kao Din” or mountain of soil because the garden was constructed at the highest area of Bangkok. After the revolution in Siam, the civil government asked King Rama VII for a permission in order for the Bangkok Bureau to turn the garden into the public zoo in 1938.
There are over 2,400 of rare and exotic animals in the zoo such as elephants, Asian tapirs, gibbons, hippos, sun bears, deer, giraffes, penguins, various kinds of birds, etc. Moreover, there are also animal shows and museums such as Nocturnal House, Small Mammal Exhibition, Children Zoo, Reptiles House, Kenya and Elephants Show, Penguin Exhibition, Seals Show, Shark Exhibition, Zoo Museum, World War II Air-raid Shelter and Amusement Park.
Watching cute animals is not the only activity available here, you can also enjoy peddling a small boat in the impressive lake in the park, as well as fishing.
